Monitoring & Alerting

We do not wait for customers to tell you the site is down. Our uptime monitoring alerting watches every layer and alerts us before small issues become outages.

What Is Uptime Monitoring and Alerting?

Uptime monitoring and alerting is continuous checking of your sites, APIs and servers with instant notifications when something fails. It answers two questions: is it up, and how healthy is it? HTTP checks confirm your pages return 200. Resource checks watch CPU, RAM and disk. Log checks catch error spikes. Together they give you uptime monitoring alerting that finds problems in 60 seconds, not 60 minutes after a customer complains.

A basic ping is not enough. A site can return 200 while the database is down, or SSL can expire tomorrow and break checkout. We check HTTP with keyword match, cert expiry at 21 and 7 days, and service health for Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL and Docker containers. When a check fails twice in a row we alert via WhatsApp, email and Slack with the failing URL, status code and last latency. No guessing. You see what broke and where.

MetroHyp runs uptime monitoring alerting for Nigerian businesses and global clients from Lagos and Abuja operations with global coverage. Checks run from multiple locations so a single network blip does not trigger a false alarm. We use UptimeRobot, Hetrix, Grafana and custom log shippers depending on your stack. It pairs naturally with VPS setup and management and backups and disaster recovery. See the full hosting and infrastructure pillar for context, or migrations if you are moving to a better monitored host.

What Our Uptime Monitoring Alerting Covers

HTTP and API Checks

60 second checks for 200 status and keyword. We track latency p50 and p95. If response tops 2 seconds twice, we flag degradation before it becomes downtime.

Server Health Alerts

CPU over 85% for 5 minutes, RAM over 90%, disk over 80% full, and load average spikes. Agent runs every 60 seconds and pushes to dashboard.

SSL and Domain Expiry

We alert at 21 days and 7 days before cert expiry and daily in the last 3 days. Domain expiry checks prevent a silent takeover.

Log and Error Tracking

Nginx 5xx rate, PHP errors and app logs are tailed and counted. A jump from 2 to 50 errors per minute triggers an alert even if uptime stays 100%.

Multi Channel Routing

WhatsApp, email and Slack by default. Optional Telegram or PagerDuty for on call rotation with escalation if no ack in 10 minutes.

Need a Status Page?

Public status page with 90 day history builds trust for customers and partners. We set it up with your branding.

How Uptime Monitoring Alerting Works: 3 Steps

1

Instrument Everything

We add checks for every public URL, API endpoint and background service. We install a light agent for CPU, RAM and disk and ship logs to a central view. Baseline runs for 48 hours to learn normal latency and error rate.

2

Route Alerts Smartly

We set thresholds that avoid noise: two failed checks before alert, no repeat for 15 minutes unless severity rises. Uptime monitoring alerting sends to the right channel per hour, with escalation if no acknowledgement. See VPS management for the server side tie in.

3

Report and Improve

Monthly uptime monitoring alerting reports show uptime percent, incident count, mean time to recover and latency trends. We use them to tune resources or fix flaky endpoints. Pair with Docker deployments for clean restarts when health fails.

Stack We Use for Uptime Monitoring Alerting

No single tool fits every stack. For simple sites we use UptimeRobot and Hetrix for external pings. For VPS fleets we add Grafana and Prometheus for metrics and a small log shipper for Nginx and app logs. Alerts go to WhatsApp via API, email via SMTP, and Slack via webhook. All checks run from at least two regions.

  • Checks: HTTP keyword, TCP port, SSL expiry, disk, CPU, RAM
  • Notify: WhatsApp, email, Slack, optional Telegram and PagerDuty
  • Dash: Grafana or hosted dashboard with 90 day retention

Managed vs Client Owned

Managed uptime monitoring alerting means we run the dashboards and respond. If a service stops at 2am, our rotation gets the alert and restarts or pages you based on SLA. Client owned means we set up the same checks on your accounts and hand over thresholds and runbooks, then support for 30 days. Both keep you as owner of data.

  • Managed: 24/7 watch, incident routing, monthly report, tuning
  • Client owned: dashboard setup, threshold config, playbook, 30 day help
  • Works with HestiaCP, Docker or bare Nginx stacks

Uptime Monitoring Alerting FAQ

How often do you check uptime?

Every 60 seconds for HTTP/S plus 60 second CPU, RAM and disk. Critical APIs can use 30 second checks.

How does uptime monitoring and alerting notify us?

WhatsApp, email and Slack by default. Optional Telegram and PagerDuty for on call escalation.

Do you monitor server health or just the website?

Both. HTTP, SSL, CPU, RAM, disk, service state and error logs so we catch the cause, not just downtime.

What is your alert SLA?

Alerts in 60 seconds. Managed routing in under 5 minutes during business hours, next priority overnight.

Do you provide uptime reports?

Yes. Monthly reports with uptime percent, incidents, MTTR and latency trends. Weekly on request.

How much does uptime monitoring and alerting cost?

From ₦25k per month ($15). Included with managed VPS or as add on to client owned setups.
